Young People’s Dialogue

Young people’s dialogue is a innovative Nottingham based project, giving young people the opportunity to explore the issues that affect them e.g. intergenerational difficulties, negative perceptions of young people and racism.

The project will be delivered in partnership with Embrace two local organisations with specific expertise in working with ‘hard-to-reach’ young people from diverse backgrounds. The Local Network Fund/Nottinghamshire Community Foundation are funding the project.

The project was developed from the Community Cohesion project that ran last year and identified that the lack of cohesion between young people and other people in communities were mainly based on negative stereotypes and the motivation behind it came from the young people themselves.

The project is composed of a series of cross cultural young people centered dialogues where the young people involved can create agenda’s, having an honest conversation and so forth. The topics discussed will explore a range of issues including:

  • Negative media portrayal of young People e.g. ASBO’s and how these perceptions can be changed.
  • Cultural awareness and integration
  • Examining the key influences and role models (e.g. sports stars, fashion, music etc)

Two of the Young People’s dialogue sessions have already taken place and were a triumph as young people were able discuss and deabte issues that were important to them. The two remaining sessions will be held at a later date.
