Equality@Work

As part of the Government’s agenda to embed best practice on equalities, businesses from across the East Midlands accessed a series of free half-day seminars from March 2006 to March 2007.

Supported by Business in the Community and funded by the DTI EQUALITY@WORK it was a series of free seminars focusing on implementing the Employment Equality Regulations (Sexual Orientation and Religion or Belief) 2003.

The key objectives of EQUALITY@WORK were to:

  • Raise awareness of the Employment Equality Legislation
  • (Sexual Orientation, Religion or Belief) 2003
  • Help businesses to develop sound policies and procedures
  • Network with other professionals in your area of work
  • Share practical tips on implementing workplace equality
  • Learn to manage prejudice and opposition to change

The sessions were aimed at: 

  • Managers and HR professionals
  • Departmental heads
  • Training and development personnel
  • Anyone else with a remit or interest in equalities

  • The Project has now successfully been completed and findings from the project evaluation have shown that:
  • Over 2,000 people were reached throughout this project.
  • 290 people attended the sessions and this amounted to 167 companies including Community and Voluntary sector organisations
  • .
  • Over 35 companies and organisations were visited for select one to one sessions
  • .
  • Project presentations were held for larger orgAnisations during the course of the project. Including Nottinghamshire Construction Forum, East Midlands Equality Forum, Food and Drink Forum in the East Midlands, Derby City Partnerships and New Deal for Communities Business Forum.
